Men’s Swimming 4×100 Freestyle Relay: What a Moment!

Published by khlindsey at 2:01 pm under Current Events Edit This

We watch The Olympic Games for those iconic moments—the moments that transcend individual teams and nations to bind the world in one single moment of human achievement. I realize the people of France might take exception to the following statement; however, Sunday night we saw one of those moments when the U.S. Men’s Swim Team won the gold medal in the 4×100 Freestyle Relay.

What a glorious moment that was for the Olympic Games; not because the U.S. team defeated the antagonistic French team, but because a group of four athletes chose to believe in their ability to transcend. They transcended their individual abilities. They transcended world expectations and they transcended the known limits of their sport.

To Michael Phelps, Garret Weber-Gale, Cullen Jones, and Jason Lezak: Congratulations and Thank You!  You inspire hope. You inspire belief. You challenge us all to reach beyond…

I can understand the French supporters’ dismay at the outcome of this - what a close finish! The TV footage of the US team’s facial expression afterwards was priceless!
