The Republican National Convention: An Excercise in Adapt or Perish?
The Republican National Committee is certainly demonstrating adaptivity this week in Minneapolis/St. Paul. It must be a “Forrest Gump” thing: you never know what you’re going to get, especially when it comes to major events and speakers.
I really want the inside story on former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani being dropped as the keynote speaker tonight; replaced by former presidential candidate Fred Thompson. I realize there are many people who believe Thompson to be “the only true conservative” that ran this year for the Republican nomination. I am thinking Giuliani has been dismissed; I wonder if he knows it.The Associated Press reports today that, “The convention seeks to reintroduce Americans to McCain and provide a high-profile introduction for [running mate] Palin.”
Reintroduce Americans to John McCain… This might be interesting. We might meet a new John McCain tonight: a more attentive, alert John McCain… like an improved version. As for Governor Palin, I think that “high-profile introduction” has already been achieved. Maybe she is the one who needs re-introducing, or for that matter, rethinking.
To Senator McCain: Sir, if you feel the need to re-think your decision regarding Sarah Palin as your running mate, I promise to praise you endlessly for having the courage to admit you are human, and humans do make mistakes. I promise to recognize your attention to the importance of any vice-presidential decision that places your running mate, one heart beat away from the Presidency. If you choose to rethink your decision, I promise to stick with political issues, as opposed to the Political, until the election. Senator McCain, if you choose to rethink your decision, the very act of rethinking would be the best empirical evidence anyone could ask for if this election really is about change. Seriously.
