Gen. Colin Powell on Meet the Press

General Powell:

Thank you so very much for coming before the American people today on Meet the Press. Thank you for openly discussing the very painful subjects that have touched you personally as well as professionally.  The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, along with American’s loss of prestige around the world are painful subjects for us all; yet we know they have affected you in ways few of us can grasp. General Powell, thank you for facing the American people and sharing your insights and perspectives. It was good to see you again.

Many of us agree that we need a president who will not “just support the policies” of the past years. Your call for “a transformational figure” resonates well with many of us who have feared the trajectory this country has taken under Bush-Cheney. Personally, I appreciate the fact that you share that discomfort.

Thank you for expressing your concern for the current direction of the Republican Party; and for where that direction is leading us. Your acknowledgment of the destructive power of right wing practices to produce polarity and demagoguery; and the obvious intention of McCain-Palin to perpetuate these ignoble practices, stand as testament to the vision of what America can and must achieve in the 21st Century.

General Powell, thank you for not shying away from expressing your values and ideals of what America expects and needs from the American President. Your appreciation for the qualities of “intellectual curiosity, steadiness, and… intellectual vigor” represent the stark contrast faced when considering these two presidential candidacies. I realize these observations will again bring you great criticism. However, in the great tradition your life exemplifies, I will follow your lead. Today you demonstrated yourself yet again, to be a man who believes in a strong, united America. I accept that as challenge; and will remain faithful toward that end; until that mission is accomplished once more.

Think this seals the deal for Obama?

    To put it simply…w00t!

Yes, this does help. Mostly in swing states, where it matters most.

BTW, did you notice that Brokaw tried to discredit Powell from the minute the interview started? Surely, Tim Russert is spinning in his grave.
