Proposition 8: From the people who want smaller government…
In last week’s jubilation, there were a couple of sobering moments. One was Michelle Bachmann’s re-election to the House of Representatives. The other was the passage of Proposition 8 in California.
What is it about Proposition 8 that elicits so much passion? With all the real problems this country faces, how did this legislation figure so prominently in this year’s election? I can not help but wonder if Proposition 8, in some way, stands as the last symbol of the radical right’s destructive stranglehold on the Republican Party.
Why does Proposition 8 matter? The conservative right continues its call for smaller government and less government interference in the lives of American citizens. Seriously, how does anyone claim to support that view of government and turn right around and support something as punitive as Proposition 8? Now to the California Supreme Court…
